Intermediate Honor Band Auditions

December 1, 2018 

Cecil Picard Elementary in Maurice, LA

ELIGIBILITY:  All students currently enrolled in their first or second year of band are eligible to audition for this band.  This includes 5th and 6th graders from parishes that begin band in 5th grade; OR 6th and7th grade students from parishes that begin band in 6th grade.  No one above 7th grade is allowed to audition.  Students in all grades may “audition up” at the Band Director’s discretion but in doing so, that student forfeits the right to audition again for a lower band.  Students may audition for only one band.  Students MUST be a member of their school band program in order to participate.

 

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS     
    

WOODWIND AND BRASS

  • Scales:  Bb, Eb, and Ab concert scales AND chromatic scale.  Students must play all scales exactly as written on the scale sheet.    All scales MUST BE MEMORIZED. 
  • Prepared Material:  Students must also perform one selection of prepared material that is included on the scale sheet.  Prepared music does not have to be memorized. 
  • Sight Reading:  All students will sight read selected excerpts chosen from the following time signatures:   4/4 and 6/8 in Six (Slow).


PERCUSSION

  •  ALL PERCUSSIONISTS will perform ONE AUDITION consisting of both Snare and Melodics.  The Snare part of the audition will consist of rudiments and prepared material and the Melodic part will consist of scales and prepared material. All scales and rudiments MUST BE MEMORIZED.  The rudiments must be played at a steady tempo as fast as the individual can play them with comfort.
  • Sight Reading:  All students will sight read selected excerpts chosen from the following time signatures:   4/4 and 6/8 in Six (Slow).
